Curly Flat Pinot Gris 2012

APPEARANCE
Pale straw gold with sparkling clarity

BOUQUET
Elements of both vineyard and winery inputs shine through in the glass. Aromas of musk spice merge with the rich primary fruit consisting of pears, honeydew melon and lychees. The rich fruit bouquet is then infused with more savoury elements of gun smoke, cashews and oatmeal which are delivered, in part, via part neutral oak fermentation.

PALATE
The palate is a story of at least three chapters. First the rich array of fruit rides upon a viscous wave creating immediate interest. It is then buoyed in equal measure by texture and a firm channel of grapefruit acid that in unison, provide great length and direction. All these elements linger in the mouth long after the wave has broken…

CELLARING SUGGESTIONS
All the elements are here for the wine to benefit from age with its abundant fruit, structure and length. By all means enjoyable now but more complexity awaits over the next 6+ years.

This is a very ripe, rich, full-bodied gris of 14 percent alcohol with a typical coppery tinge to its colour.  The spicy, ripe peach aromas meld with a suggestion of barrel.  It’s full in the mouth with a tickle of sweetness and a silky texture.  Lively acidity keeps it fresh. 93 Points

The child of a season Phillip Moraghan describes as ‘postcard perfect,’ this is one of the most pristine pinot gris I’ve encountered this year. Magnificent and crystal clear in its clarity of pear, lemon and hints of fresh nutmeg, it’s an immaculate contrast of impeccably balanced fruit concentration and the taut acidity of this cool site. Beautifully fine, mineral mouth feel is reinforced by wild fermentation and three months in 40% old oak. Cellar door only.
