Curly Flat’s White Pinot is a fascinating expression of Pinot Noir, crafted with delicacy and intention. It starts in the vineyard, where a small amount of juice is naturally released from the Pinot Noir grapes during the short journey to the winery. This early juice, known as the free run, is gently collected before it has time to pick up much colour from the skins. This results in a wine that’s technically red by grape, but white in appearance.

The juice is fermented in tank, and the wine aged for 2 months in old French oak puncheons; large, neutral barrels that add texture without dominant oak flavour. The combination of stainless steel fermentation and aging in old oak creates a unique balance of freshness and depth, thanks to the interplay of reductive and oxidative environments.

Tasting Notes

A medium salmon hue signals gentle extraction and intent. The nose is fragrant and layered, with wild berries, grapefruit, blood orange and quince paste. The palate is fluid and mouth-watering, reminiscent of watermelon juice, carried by bright acidity and a long, savoury line. Generous yet restrained, this is an elegant rosé-style White Pinot from a warmer vintage, finely structured, expressive, and lifted through to the finish.

In essence, this is Pinot Noir reimagined, made like a white wine, but still carrying the soul of the grape.
