“Medium yellow colour and a very complex yet understated bouquet displaying butterscotch, roasted hazelnuts, dried apricots and hints of sulfidic funkiness. A very attractive mix. The palate no less appealing with richness and yet restraint, lively acidity and a clean, crisp finish. Long carry. Very complex, loaded with artifact. An outstanding wine.”

The Real Review
“Macedon Ranges chardonnay from one of the region’s leaders, Curly Flat. Characterised by its length. This is a classic chardonnay release from Curly Flat. It has ageworthiness written all over it – though of course it drinks well now. Spotlessly clean lemon, slate, oak-spice, peach and hay flavours. Slinky, cedary oak. Almost sweet-fruited but not quite; just so. Beautiful.”

The Wine Front
“Light, delicate nose but real depth and even a hint of butterscotch on the palate. Open and already hugely enjoyable in a chewy, substantial way. Long. Very savoury.”

Bouquet
A richly complex nose that retains harmonious subtlety, suggesting a wine that is in balance with itself and its season. White flowers and lemon and lime zest combine with savoury notes of fresh straw and oyster shell.
Palate
A graceful seam of acid keeps the powerful fruit presence in check, before it builds to a lingering mineral finish. Poised texture is an outstanding feature of this delicate, yet focused wine.
Cellaring
A benchmark release, a wine of tremendous balance, with nothing out of place. Powerful as it is agile, this wine is comfortable in knowing its long term future is assured. Drinking pleasure is guaranteed now, patience in the cellar will be duly rewarded at every stage over the next 8-10 years.
How is this drinking now?
It’s pretty simple: dream growing conditions bring dream wines. The voluminous palate kept buoyant and flowing via crystalline acidity. Great savoury complexity that retains great drinkability. Drink 2020-2024.
